Scope

This standard specifies a general method for determining the total amount of trace inorganic nitrogen compounds using the Nessler's reagent colorimetric method and the salicylate hypochlorite colorimetric method. This standard is applicable to the determination of the total amount of trace inorganic nitrogen compounds (including nitrate, nitrite, and ammonium salts) in chemical reagents. The detection range of the Nessler's reagent visual colorimetric method and spectrophotometry is 0.05 μg/mL to 0.8 μg/mL (calculated in terms of N); the detection range of the salicylate hypochlorite visual colorimetric method and spectrophotometry is 0.04 μg/mL to 1 μg/mL (calculated in terms of N).
