Scope

This document specifies a web service for accessing and displaying DICOM persistent objects (such as images and medical imaging reports).
The purpose of this document is to provide results and images to healthcare professionals. This document provides a simple rule for accessing DICOM persistent objects in HTML web pages or XML documents via the HTTP/HTTPs protocol using DICOM UIDs. Data can be retrieved in the display format specified by the requestor (such as JPEG or GIF format) or in the native DICOM format.
This document does not support web searches for DICOM images. This document only relates to DICOM persistent objects (not other DICOM objects or non-DICOM objects). Access control beyond the general security mechanisms of web applications is beyond the scope of this document.
