Scope
This section specifies the test procedures for evaluating the voltage durability of insulation structures in AC and DC rotating motors with molded windings. This test procedure is essentially comparative, comparing the performance of the insulation structure to be evaluated with the performance of a reference insulation structure verified by operating experience. This test procedure is primarily applicable to the insulation structures of air-cooled motors, but it is also suitable for evaluating some insulation structures of hydrogen-cooled motors. Note that IEC/TS 60034-1842 specifies the identification procedure for insulation structures of molded windings powered by frequency converters.
