Scope

This document specifies the principles of vibration measurement and data processing when evaluating the impact of vibration on structures. This document does not address excitation sources, unless the excitation source determines the dynamic range, frequency, or other related parameters. The evaluation of the impact of structural vibration is primarily based on structural response, using appropriate analytical methods to determine frequency, duration, and amplitude. This document is only applicable to the measurement of structural vibration, and does not include the measurement of air pressure and other pressure fluctuations, but takes into account the response to these excitations.
This document applies to all structures built on or underground. These include structures in use or under maintenance, such as buildings, structures of archaeological and historical value (cultural heritage), bridges, tunnels, gas and liquid facilities (including pipelines), geotechnical structures (such as dams and embankments), and fixed marine structures (such as docks and piers).
This document does not apply to certain special structures, including nuclear power stations and dams.
The response of structures is related to the excitation sources. This document specifies the methods of vibration measurement under the excitation of excitation sources, including the frequency, duration, and amplitude of the excitation. The excitation sources mainly include earthquakes, strong winds, blasting, wind loads, air noise, sonic booms, internal machinery, traffic, and construction activities.
