Scope

This standard specifies the types and models, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transportation, and storage requirements for chemical oxygen fire self-rescue respirators (hereinafter referred to as respirators). This standard applies to disposable isolation respirators using alkali metal superoxide as an oxygen-generating agent for the purpose of escape in the event of a fire. This standard does not apply to operational and rescue-type respirators, nor to diving-type respirators. The respirators specified in this standard are designed primarily for adult use.
