Scope
This document describes the process of using the least squares criterion to fit a set of non-linear calibration data with quadratic, cubic, or higher-order polynomials, and evaluating the uncertainty associated with the generated calibration curves. Only polynomials with integer powers are considered.
Since conducting this type of curve fitting and uncertainty evaluation typically requires the use of a computer, in most cases, standard programs provided on the computer are used; a reference program is provided in Appendix A.
Examples of the use of these methods can be found in Appendix B.
It is not allowed to extrapolate beyond the data range.
