Scope

This standard specifies the safety requirements, dimensions, and functions of permanently installed power-driven stair lifts for people with mobility impairments (who can stand, sit, or use wheelchairs).
This standard applies to the following stair lifts:
a) Operating on staircases or inclined surfaces between fixed floor levels;
b) With a rated speed of no more than 0.15 m/s;
c) With a tilt angle of the guide rails relative to the horizontal plane of no more than 75°;
d) With a carrying device supported or guided by one or more guide rails.
Note: Fences are not required on the operating path of stair lifts.
