Scope

This document describes the high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and o-phenylenediamine fluorescence methods for determining total ascorbic acid in feed.
The HPLC method in this document is suitable for determining L-ascorbic acid, D-isomeric ascorbic acid, and total ascorbic acid in compound feed, concentrated feed, and premix feed additives; the o-phenylenediamine fluorescence method is suitable for determining total ascorbic acid in compound feed, concentrated feed, and premix feed additives.
This document is not applicable to the determination of total ascorbic acid in various feeds added in the form of esterified ascorbic acid.
The detection limit of L-ascorbic acid and D-isomeric ascorbic acid in the HPLC method in this document is 5 mg/kg, and the quantification limit is 20 mg/kg; the detection limit of the o-phenylenediamine fluorescence method is 8 mg/kg, and the quantification limit is 25 mg/kg.
