Basic Information
Scope
1.1 This procedure applies to the type-approval (or prototype testing), initial verification, and subsequent verification of weighing sensors (hereinafter referred to as sensors).
1.2 This procedure specifies the main static metrological performance and static evaluation methods of weighing sensors used in quality measurement. This procedure is designed to provide metrology departments with a unified method for determining the metrological performance of sensors used in controlled metrology devices.
1.3 This procedure considers several errors of sensors together, characterizing the sensor's characteristics by an allowable error envelope. That is, instead of specifying the respective error limits for given characteristics (such as nonlinearity, hysteresis, etc.), we consider the entire allowable error envelope as a limiting factor. Using the concept of error envelopes allows us to obtain the desired results while balancing each factor that contributes to the overall measurement error.
Note: The error envelope can be defined as a curve that provides the maximum allowable error limits (see Table 5), which is a function of the applied load (mass) within the measurement range. The specified comprehensive error can be positive or negative, and includes nonlinearity, hysteresis, and temperature effects on sensitivity.
1.4 Instruments used with sensors to provide quality indications are not included in the scope of this procedure.
