Scope

This section specifies the architecture of an automatic switching optical network, the reference structure and basic structural elements of the control plane, call and connection control, routing, automatic discovery and resource management requirements, management plane and data communication network requirements, naming and addressing, protection and recovery, network reliability and security, as well as service requirements. The requirements for automatic switching optical networks specified in this section are independent of the client layer they carry and the specific implementation technologies. The specific technical details of the transmission network are not within the scope of this section. This section applies to the SDH transmission network defined by ITUT G.803 and the optical transmission network (OTN) defined by ITUT G.872.
