Scope

This document specifies the requirements for the qualification and certification of personnel using the following industrial non-destructive testing (NDT) methods.
a) Acoustic emission testing;
b) Eddy current testing;
c) Leak detection (excluding hydrostatic testing);
d) Magnetic particle testing;
e) Penetrant testing;
f) Radiographic testing;
g) Strain testing;
h) Thermal imaging testing;
i) Ultrasonic testing;
j) Visual testing (excluding direct visual testing and visual testing applied when using other NDT methods).
The system specified in this document can also be applied to other NDT methods or new technologies defined as NDT methods, provided that a complete certification scheme is established and the method or technology has been standardized internationally, regionally, or nationally, or the new NDT method or technology has been proven to be effective and satisfactory to the certification body.
Note 1: The term "industrial" refers to fields other than medical applications.
Note 2: CEN/TR 14748 provides guidance on NDT qualification methods.
Note 3: This document specifies the requirements for third-party conformity assessment schemes. These requirements do not directly apply to first- or second-party conformity assessments, but relevant parts of this document can also be referenced.
Note 4: The term "direct visual testing" refers to testing where there is a continuous and uninterrupted light path between the observer's eyes and the detection area, and the observer does not use tools or equipment (such as mirrors, endoscopes, optical fibers, etc.) for the testing.
Note 5: It does not include strain calculations based on other NDT methods.
