Basic Information
Scope
This document specifies the basic techniques of computer radiography, with the aim of obtaining economical and reproducible results that meet the requirements. This technique is based on the detection of basic theories and experimental measurements. This document specifies the general rules for the use of industrial computers for X-ray and gamma-ray detection using IP (Image Plate). This document is based on the basic principles of film-based radiographic detection of metal materials as determined by ISO 5579. The basic settings of the radiation source, detector, and their corresponding geometric positions comply with the requirements of ISO 5579 and related product standards, such as the welding standard ISO 17636 and the casting standard EN 12681.
This document does not specify the acceptance criteria for defects. Computer radiography (CR) systems provide digital grayscale images that can only be viewed and evaluated on a computer. This document establishes recommended principles for selecting detectors and radiographic detection. Important factors such as computers, software, monitors, printers, and observation conditions are not the main focus of this document.
This document specifies the minimum requirements for computer radiography and digital images to obtain detection sensitivity equivalent to the film-based radiographic detection determined by ISO 5579. Some application standards, such as EN 16407, provide detection conditions that may be different or less stringent.
