Scope

This standard specifies the safety and effectiveness, functional interchangeability, design, performance, materials, testing and inspection, welding, marking, handling, storage, and transportation requirements of rotating blowout preventers (RCDs) used in gas drilling, oil and gas well drilling operations, and geothermal drilling operations.
This standard applies to active (see Figure 1), passive (see Figure 2), and hybrid (see Figure 3) rotating blowout preventers, RCD rotating assemblies (including metal parts and non-metal parts), RCD sealing cores (active and passive types), and RCD body clamps. It does not apply to on-site testing of RCDs.
