Scope
This standard specifies the requirements for the safety, interchangeability, design, materials, welding, quality control, marking, and storage and transportation of rotating blowout preventers (RCDs) used in oil and gas and geothermal drilling operations. The standard sets out requirements for key components. This standard applies to active (see Figure 1), passive (see Figure 2), and hybrid (see Figure 3) rotating blowout preventers, RCD rotating assemblies (including metal and non-metal parts), RCD sealing cores (active and passive), and the design and manufacture of RCD body clamps. This standard does not apply to the on-site use or on-site testing of RCDs.
