Scope

This standard specifies the test methods for defects in short chemical fibers—the original cotton analyzer method (Method A) and manual sorting method (Method B). In cases of dispute, the original cotton analyzer method shall be used; it also specifies the test method for oily yellow fibers. This standard is applicable to the determination of the defect content in short chemical fibers such as polyester (Dacron), polyamide (Nylon), polyacrylonitrile (Chlorofibre), polypropylene (Prolene), polyvinyl acetate formaldehyde (Vinalon), and cellulose fibers.
