Scope

This standard applies to the self-commutation converter valves of three-phase bridge-type voltage source converters (VSC) used in high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems or back-to-back systems. This standard is limited to electrical type tests and routine tests. The scope of this standard includes electrical type tests and routine tests for dynamic braking valves used in HVDC overvoltage limitation. This standard can be used to guide the testing of static synchronous compensators (STATCOM) valves. The tests specified in this standard are based on air-insulated valves. For other types of valves, the test requirements and acceptance criteria of this standard may also be referenced after reaching a consensus between the buyer and the seller.
