Scope

This document covers all equipment within the scope of IEC 61326-1, but its scope is limited to specific electromagnetic environments and industrial systems and equipment intended to perform safety functions as specified in SIL1 to SIL3 in IEC 61508.
The electromagnetic environments included in this series of product standards refer to indoor and outdoor industrial sites, and according to the requirements of the processing industry, especially chemical/petrochemical/pharmaceutical production plants, the mitigation measures given in Appendix C are used. The electromagnetic environment covered by this document differs from the general industrial environment (see GB/T 18268.31-2022) in that mitigation measures are implemented for electromagnetic phenomena to obtain a specific electromagnetic environment with tested values.
The representative characteristics of specific industrial electromagnetic environments are as follows:
——Restricted access to industrial areas;
——Limited use of mobile transmitters;
——Dedicated cables for power, control, signals, and communication;
——Isolation between power, control, signal, and communication cables;
——Factory buildings mainly constructed of metal frames;
——Appropriate measures for overvoltage/lightning protection;
——Pipe heating systems driven by AC power;
——No high-voltage substations near sensitive areas;
——Low-power devices using ISM frequencies according to CISPR 11;
——Competent personnel;
——Periodic maintenance of equipment and systems;
——Assembly and installation guidelines for equipment and systems.
According to IEC 61508 or IEC 61511, equipment and systems that have been proven or previously used are not within the scope of this document.
Fire alarm systems and safety alarm systems for protecting buildings are not within the scope of this document.
