Scope

This standard describes the method for determining the oxygen content (mass fraction) in metal powders with an oxygen content of 0.05% to 3% that can be reduced by hydrogen. This method is suitable for non-alloyed, partially alloyed, and fully alloyed metal powders, as well as mixtures of carbides and bonded metals. It is not suitable for powders containing lubricants or organic binders. By using a dedicated catalytic device, this method can be extended to the measurement of carbon-containing powders. ISO 4491 should be read in conjunction with ISO 760 and ISO 4491-1.
