Scope

This document establishes a naming system for thermoplastic elastomers based on the chemical composition of polymers and related polymers, and specifies the symbols and abbreviations used to identify thermoplastic elastomers in industry, commerce, and government. The naming system established in this document does not conflict with existing product names and trademarks, but rather complements them.
This document applies to the naming of thermoplastic elastomers.
Note 1: When the names of thermoplastic elastomers are used in technical documents and literature, the abbreviations of the elastomers named in this document are placed after the names.
Note 2: Appendix A provides abbreviations for thermoplastic elastomers that have already been used in material standards, technical bulletins, textbooks, patents, and trade literature.
