本标准规定了能力验证提供者在能力验证计划设计和数据分析时所用的统计方法，并对能力验证计划的参加者和认可机构利用所得数据提出了建议。
本标准给出的方法可用于证明实验室、检验机构和个人给出的测量结果满足特定要求，其能力是可接受的。
本标准适用于能力验证中报告结果为定量结果和定性结果的情形。
