Scope
This standard specifies the principles, requirements, and guidelines for conducting water footprint assessments of products, processes, or organizations based on life cycle assessment (LCA). This standard can be used to implement and report independent water footprint assessments, or as part of a comprehensive environmental assessment. Only substances discharged into the atmosphere and soil that affect water quality are analyzed, not all discharged substances. The results of the water footprint assessment can be a single value or a set of impact indicators. This standard applies to reporting, not to information exchange in forms such as labels or declarations. Note: Specific requirements and guidelines for organizations are provided in Appendix A.
