Scope

This document describes the method for determining the iodine value in animal and vegetable fats and oils.
Appendix B provides a method for calculating the iodine value based on the fatty acid composition data. This method is not suitable for fish oil. In addition, cold-pressed, unrefined animal and vegetable oils, as well as (some) hydrogenated oils, may yield different results using these two methods. The calculated iodine value will be affected by impurities and thermal degradation products.
Note: This method adopts the AOCS Cd 1c-85 standard.
