Scope

This standard specifies the determination methods for the content of lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)), and two types of brominated flame retardants, namely polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), in electronic and electrical products.
This standard only addresses the processing and testing of samples. The sample types and sampling methods are determined by the testing institutions.
Note 1: For further guidance on how to obtain representative samples from the entire electronic product to be tested for the content of restricted substances, refer to IEC/PAS 62596:2009 [1].
It should be noted that the selection of samples may affect the interpretation of the test results.
This standard does not include:
——The definition of a sample "unit" or "homogeneous material";
——The disassembly procedure for obtaining samples;
——The evaluation procedure.
Note 2: For further guidance on the evaluation procedure, refer to IEC/TR 62476:2009 [2].
