Scope

This part of GB/T 5959 specifies the safety requirements for industrial electric heating equipment and devices that transfer energy to the materials being processed by heat transfer methods, typically in the form of infrared radiation generated by infrared emitters, which significantly exceeds thermal convection and thermal conduction within the device. The scope is further limited to infrared emitters that emit broadband continuous spectra in air or vacuum with a maximum spectral radiation wavelength of more than 780 nm, such as those emitting thermal radiation or high-pressure arc discharge.
GB/T 5959.1—2019 defines infrared as optical radiation with a frequency range of approximately 400 THz to 300 GHz. The corresponding wavelength range in vacuum is 780 nm to 10 μm. Industrial infrared heating typically uses infrared sources with a rated temperature of 500 °C to 3,000 °C, and the radiation emitted from these infrared sources is mainly in the wavelength range of 780 nm to 10 μm.
Since the emission wavelength of many heat emitters may be lower than 780 nm or higher than 3,000 nm, this part also considers the safety aspects of visible light and radiation with wavelengths exceeding 3,000 nm.
