Scope

This standard specifies the electrical and mechanical characteristics, as well as the main dimensions, of long rod-shaped porcelain insulator components. This standard applies to long rod-shaped porcelain insulator components used in high-voltage AC and DC overhead transmission lines, and also to insulators of similar structures used in substations or converter stations.
The long rod-shaped porcelain insulator components applicable to this standard may have metal attachments at both ends, which can be either groove-type connections or ball-and-socket connections.
Note: The principles of this standard can also be applied to similar insulator components outside the scope of this standard, such as insulators used in traction lines.
