Basic Information
Scope
This document specifies the safety technical requirements and test methods for hand-held hedge trimmers powered by internal combustion engines, operated by a single person, and used to trim hedges and shrubs with one or more linear reciprocating blades (hereinafter referred to as "hedge trimmers").
This document also applies to split-shaft hedge trimmers and multifunctional machines configured as hedge trimmers.
This document provides methods to eliminate or reduce various hazards arising from the use of hedge trimmers, and stipulates the information requirements for safety operating guidelines provided by manufacturers.
This document outlines the major hazards, dangerous situations, and events associated with hedge trimmers when used for their intended purpose and under reasonably foreseeable misuse by manufacturers (see Chapter 4).
This document does not apply to hedge trimmers with an engine displacement of more than 80 cm3, nor to hedge trimmers produced before the publication and implementation of this document.
