Scope
This standard specifies the safety distance values for preventing contact with dangerous areas of machinery in industrial and non-industrial environments. The safety distance is applicable to protective measures. This standard also provides information on the safety distance to prevent free contact with dangerous areas of the lower limbs (see 4.3).
This standard applies to individuals aged 14 and above (the 5th percentile of a 14-year-old's height is approximately 1400mm). Additionally, for the upper limbs, information is provided on the safety distance required for children aged 3 and above (the 5th percentile of a 3-year-old's height is approximately 900mm) when they touch openings with their hands.
