Scope
This guidance technical document describes the boundaries of the software engineering discipline and provides a way to access literature supporting this discipline by topic.
There are five objectives in formulating the Software Engineering Knowledge Body (SWEBOK) guidelines:
a) Promote a consistent view of software engineering in the industry;
b) Clarify the status of software engineering and set boundaries between software engineering and other disciplines such as computer science, project management, computer engineering, and mathematics;
c) Describe the content of the software engineering discipline;
d) Provide topics for using the software engineering knowledge body;
e) Provide a basis for curriculum development, personal certification, and licensing materials.
