Scope

This part of GB/Z 30556 defines the protection concept of electromagnetic pulses (hereinafter referred to as HEMP) generated by high-altitude nuclear explosions and provides related information. The purpose of this part is to provide a foundation for the following aspects: -- the adequate protection design of civil facilities against HEMP; -- the evaluation of the protection against the intensity of HEMP that has already been implemented; -- the comparison of HEMP protection and lightning protection requirements, with the aim of demonstrating whether they can be combined at low cost; -- highlighting the differences between HEMP protection and lightning protection requirements, with the aim of assessing the consequences of HEMP when no additional protection measures are implemented in addition to existing lightning protection.
