Scope

This standard specifies the character structure of the start and stop, as well as the synchronous data transmission system used with the seven-bit coded character set defined in ISO 646, the eight-bit coded character set defined in GB/T 11383, and the extension of the above-mentioned coded character sets defined in GB/T 2311, which are used for bit-serial communication.
This standard also specifies the parity check readout used with the seven-bit coded character set.
This standard applies to the transmission of interface information standardized by CCITT and ISO/IEC between data terminal equipment (DTE) and data circuit-terminating equipment (DCE), as defined in the relevant CCITT V and X series recommendations.
