Scope

This document establishes a framework for defining metadata elements, based on the principles and implementation guidelines set forth in ISO 23081-1:2017. The purpose of this framework is to:
a) Facilitate the standardized description of documents and their associated key contextual entities;
b) Establish a common understanding of fixed-level information in documents, in order to promote interoperability between organizational systems and between documents and related information;
c) Facilitate the reuse and standardization of document management metadata across time, space, and application domains.
To facilitate the implementation of document management metadata, this document further clarifies the key decision points that need to be addressed and recorded. The objectives are to:
—— Identify the issues that need to be resolved in the implementation of document management metadata;
—— Clarify and elaborate on the various options for resolving these issues;
—— Define the various paths for decision-making and choice-making during the implementation of document management metadata.
