Scope

This document describes a method for determining the content of organic solvent extractables in plastics by heating the organic solvent to near its boiling point to extract the extractables. Appendix B describes a special extraction method of "determining the solubility of polypropylene in xylene at room temperature by heating for extraction, cooling for filtration, and evaporating the filtrate." This document is applicable to plastics whose organic solvent extractables include monomers, oligomers, polymers, plasticizers, stabilizers, and so on.
