GB/T 18391.2-2026 Information technology—Metadata registries(MDR)—Part 2:Classification

Scope

This document describes the registration and use of classification schemes to classify registered items in the MDR, supplementing ISO/IEC 11179-3. Any metadata item can be classified as a classifiable item, including object classes, attributes, representations, concept domains, value domains, data element concepts, and the data elements themselves.
This document does not establish specific classification schemes as examples. Endorsing a specific classification scheme and/or a specific epistemology is beyond the scope of this document. These issues will be addressed by other standards committees and/or are intended to apply to specific fields. The MDR can establish its own classification scheme, and other standards committees are developing or have already developed normative languages and/or specific technical methods and structures for classification.
According to the descriptions and provisions of ISO/IEC 11179-6, each registration authority classifies classifiable items according to the classification schemes, structures, and content it deems appropriate. Registration authorities can record and archive the classification of classifiable items in accordance with the principles, methods, procedures, and attributes specified in this document.
