Scope

This document describes methods for testing and quantitatively assessing the brittleness of photographic film and paper. However, it does not explicitly propose a universal brittleness test for all types of stress encountered. For these stresses, special tests may be required to accurately evaluate the brittleness of the material.
This method is suitable for films with or without a gelatin backing layer, as well as ordinary photographic paper or coated (RC) photographic paper. It is also applicable to unprocessed or processed photographic materials, although the brittleness level after processing may differ significantly from that before processing.
