本标准适用于家用和类似用途的电熨斗。
本标准的目的是说明和定义用户感兴趣的家用和类似用途的电熨斗基本性能特性，并描述测试这些特性的标准方法。
本标准包括的电熨斗有：
——干式熨斗；
——蒸汽熨斗；
——带电动泵的开口式蒸汽电熨斗；
——喷雾式熨斗；
——带有一个容量不超过5 L的独立水容器或蒸发器/发生器的蒸汽熨斗。
本标准既不涉及安全，也不涉及性能要求。
注： 在电熨斗性能测评中被考虑的首要特性就是将织物熨烫平整，而不造成织物烫焦或其他损坏的基本能力，设计用一个单一的方法就能稳定而可重复地测出这一特征是不可能的。因此，电熨斗的测试中包括了对这些参数的检查，例如：底板中点的温度、底板温度分布等能影响其基本特性的参数。评价一个电熨斗的好坏时，这些能极大地影响性能的参数中任何一个无法预料的结果，在结果的综合考虑中，有一个值得注意的界限，才能给出令人满意的熨烫性能，即不要过于计较单个结果中的细微区别。
