Scope

This standard identifies various elements of product certification systems based on existing practices and provides guidance on product certification systems. This standard is intended for use by product certification bodies and other stakeholders who wish to understand, develop, establish, or compare third-party product certification systems. The purpose of this standard is not to describe all existing forms of product certification. This standard does not address first-party and second-party product conformity assessments. Note 1: The term "product" in this standard has the broadest meaning, including processes and services; the term "standard" includes other normative documents, such as specifications or technical regulations (see GB/T 27065 for an example). Note 2: Product certification is a third-party conformity assessment activity (see GB/T 27000).
