Scope

This standard includes requirements for the competence, consistent operation, and impartiality of product, process, and service certification bodies. Certification bodies operating in accordance with this standard do not need to provide all types of product, process, and service certification. Product, process, and service certification is a third-party conformity assessment activity (ISO/IEC 17000:2004, section 5.5).
In this standard, except for those clauses specifically mentioning "process" or "service" (see Annex B), the term "product" can also be understood as "process" or "service".
