Scope

Scope: This document specifies the terms and definitions for the harvesting and post-harvest processing of pomegranates, as well as technical requirements for fruit collection, post-harvest fruit treatment, storage, and removal from storage. This document applies to the harvesting and post-harvest processing of pomegranates. Main technical content: 1. Terms and definitions: The following terms and definitions apply to this document. 1.1 Calyx tube: The calyx is a plant tissue that forms the outermost ring of a flower, protecting the inner buds. A complete ring of calyx petals forms the calyx. When the petals are separated from each other, it is called a split calyx; when the petals fuse together, it is called a fused calyx. The lower end of the fused calyx is called the calyx tube, and the separated upper part is called the calyx lobes. 1.2 Prickles: Small cavities formed during the development of the pomegranate seed coat. These cavities, located near the seed nucleus, are filled with red or silver-white, radially-oriented substances, similar to human veins. They serve as nutrient delivery channels and are a sign of pomegranate maturity. 1.3 Sun-damaged fruits: In summer, high temperatures and low leaf coverage cause physiological damage to the fruit skin, resulting in uneven yellowing and sunken areas on the sun-exposed side of the fruit. Such fruits are called "sun-damaged fruits". 2. Harvesting 2.1 Maturity standards: The fruit must meet the appearance characteristics inherent to the variety at maturity (visible fruit ridges and color characteristics); the seed color should be consistent with the variety's maturity color, and the prickles should be fully developed. The fruit's soluble solids content and flavor must meet the maturity requirements. 2.2 Harvesting time: Harvest according to the maturity standards. For storage, harvest at 6-7 maturity; for fresh fruit sales, harvest at 8-9 maturity. 2.3 Picking requirements: 2.3.1 Picking should be done on a clea
