Scope

Scope: This document specifies the preliminary investigation, general guidelines, and requirements for the reconstruction and quality improvement of low-yield orchards of Xiangnan navel oranges. This document applies to the transformation of low-yield orchards of Xiangnan navel oranges; Main technical content: 3 Terms and definitions. The following terms and definitions apply to this document. 3.1 Xiangnan navel oranges: Navel oranges grown in cities such as Yongzhou, Chenzhou, Shaoyang, Huaihua, Hengyang, and Zhuzhou located between 110°E and 114°E and 25°N and 26.5°N. The main varieties are medium-ripening Navel oranges, covering early- and late-ripening varieties. The soluble solids content ≥11%, and the oranges should have quality characteristics such as "red and clean, fresh and sweet, and fragrant" that distinguish them from other production areas. 3.2 Low-yield orchards: Orchards with significantly lower yields and economic benefits than the market average due to unsuitable varieties, aging trees, or improper cultivation management measures. 4. Preliminary investigation: Before the transformation, a survey of the low-yield orchards should be conducted, including but not limited to the orchard's varieties, tree age, yield, quality, economic benefits, planting spacing, soil composition, pest and disease occurrence, and management conditions. 5. Transformation plan 5.1 Rebuilding transformation: For orchards with trees aged over 20 years, degenerated varieties, or those that do not meet market demand, or those with an average annual yield per mu of less than 1,000 kg in the past three years, the old trees should be uprooted and replaced with high-quality new varieties to rebuild the orchard according to standardized specifications. 5.2 Quality improvement transformation: For orchards with relatively robust tree vigor, various technical measures such as reducing planting density, replacing inferior varieties with superior ones, improving soil quality, and complem
