Scope

This standard specifies the test methods for residual solvents in polyacrylonitrile-based carbon fiber precursor filaments—gas chromatography (Method A), colorimetry (Method B), and mercury salt titration (Method C).
Methods A and B are applicable to polyacrylonitrile-based carbon fiber precursor filaments using dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and dimethylacetamide (DMAC) as solvents. Method A is used for arbitration.
Method C is applicable to polyacrylonitrile-based carbon fiber precursor filaments using sodium thiocyanate (NaSCN) as a solvent.
