Scope

1.1 This standard specifies a method for determining the volume fraction of fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) in diesel fuel using infrared spectroscopy, with a measurement range of approximately 1.7% to 22.7% FAME volume fraction. Samples with FAME content exceeding the specified range and other intermediate distillate oil samples can also be measured using this method, but its precision has not been verified.
1.2 This standard has been proven to be applicable to FAME samples that meet the requirements of GB/T 20828. To obtain reliable quantitative data, the samples should not contain significant amounts of other interfering components, especially esters. These interfering components absorb in the spectral region used for quantitative analysis of FAME, which can lead to an overestimation of the data obtained by this method.
Note 1: If it is suspected that interfering components exist in the sample, it is recommended to record all infrared spectra and compare them with the spectra of samples containing known FAME components.
Note 2: In the conversion of units to volume fraction, the density of FAME is assumed to be a fixed value of 880.0 kg/m3.
1.3 The use of this standard may involve hazardous materials, operations, and instruments. This standard does not provide instructions on all safety issues related to its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health measures before use and to determine the applicability of relevant regulatory restrictions.
