Scope

This standard specifies the classification and requirements of polymer-based crown and bridge materials, and also stipulates the corresponding test methods for these standard requirements. This standard applies to polymer-based crown and bridge materials used in dental laboratories for making permanent veneers or front crowns that either contact or do not contact metal surfaces. This standard also applies to polymer-based crown and bridge materials that manufacturers claim can adhere to metal base materials without the need for protrusions or grid retention on the metal base materials. This standard does not apply to polymer-based materials used for direct tooth restoration, such as crowns, veneers, or repairs, nor to those used in the load-bearing areas of posterior teeth.
