Scope

This document provides guidance on ensuring the safety of low-voltage electrical equipment based on ISO/IEC Guide 51. The guidance includes risk assessment, which integrates knowledge and experience related to the design, use, incidents, accidents, and injuries of low-voltage electrical equipment to evaluate risks at various stages of the equipment's life cycle (see Chapter 6), as well as basic principles for implementing risk reduction measures. Technical committees are encouraged to adopt this document where appropriate. This document provides additional guidance on implementing risk assessment based on ISO/IEC Guide 50, ISO/IEC Guide 51, and ISO/IEC Guide 71. It establishes procedures for hazard identification, risk estimation, and risk evaluation (including risk comparison), as well as necessary risk reduction. The injuries addressed in this document include potential harm to people, property, or livestock. Technical committees are not required to use the structure of this document. This document also includes requirements for equipment documentation that provide sufficient information for safe use of the equipment.
