Scope

1.0.1 In order to adapt to the trend of an aging population in China, implement a strategy of actively responding to population aging, improve the living conditions of the elderly, and ensure that the newly built elderly residential buildings meet the requirements of safety, practicality, hygiene, economy, and environmental protection, while satisfying the special needs of the elderly in terms of physiology, psychology, and services, these guidelines are formulated. 1.0.2 These guidelines apply to the design of new, expanded, and renovated elderly residential buildings. 1.0.3 The design of elderly residential buildings should adapt to a retirement service system based on home care, supported by the community, and supplemented by institutional care; it should ensure the safety and convenience of elderly residents. It should reflect the adaptability to the elderly's health status, self-care ability, and care needs, and improve the quality of elderly living. 1.0.4 In addition to implementing these guidelines, the design of elderly residential buildings should also comply with the provisions of current relevant national standards.
