Scope
This standard specifies the classification, technical requirements, and acceptance tests for electric, hydraulic, and diesel-driven ocean-going ship tow winches (hereinafter referred to as winches) that can reel, unwind, support, and store steel wire ropes on reels. This standard applies to the design, production, and acceptance of winches, but it does not apply to fiber rope winches.
