Scope

This standard specifies a method for determining the content of free glycerol in fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) with a mass fraction range of 0.005% to 0.07% using gas chromatography.
This standard is applicable to evaluating the quality of fatty acid methyl esters in pure biodiesel. Glycerol, as a by-product of the ester exchange reaction, can affect the performance of the fuel.
