Scope

This standard specifies the test methods and calculation procedures for the steady-state and dynamic thermal performance of solar collectors (hereinafter referred to as collectors). This standard applies to flat-plate solar collectors (hereinafter referred to as flat-plate collectors) that use solar radiation for heating, have transparent cover plates, and use liquid as the heat transfer medium; as well as non-concentrating all-glass vacuum tube solar collectors, glass-metal structure vacuum tube solar collectors, and heat pipe vacuum tube solar collectors (hereinafter referred to as vacuum tube collectors) that use liquid as the heat transfer medium. This standard does not apply to thermal storage solar collectors that integrate storage tanks and collectors, nor to solar collectors without transparent cover plates or those with tracking focusing mechanisms.
