Scope

This section describes the mercury intrusion method developed by Ritter and Drake [1] [2] for evaluating the pore size distribution and specific surface area of solids. It is a comparable method. However, this method is usually destructive due to mercury contamination. The measured volume of mercury penetrating into pores or voids is a function of the hydrostatic pressure associated with the pore size. This section is suitable for studying most non-wetting porous materials.
