Scope
This section specifies the basic concepts required for RMCP used in relay multicasting. It defines relevant terms and proposes a framework for the future development of RMCP. This framework covers network technologies, including network entities and their relationships, service scenarios, basic operations, and message encoding rules.
RMCP is a protocol used to implement relay multicasting data transport solutions. Unlike conventional IP multicasting, RMCP can configure relayed multicasting paths, which use intermediate host devices to multicast communication traffic. RMCP can be applied to the current unicast-based Internet that has not yet been deployed, without requiring any modifications at all.
