Scope

This standard specifies the correction curve method for determining the carbon content in carbon steel and low-alloy steel (other alloy elements with a mass fraction of less than 2%) using an electron probe. This standard includes sample preparation, X-ray detection, establishment of correction curves, and evaluation of the uncertainty of carbon content detection. This standard is applicable to the determination of carbon content in steel with a carbon mass fraction of less than 1%. When the carbon content is higher than 1%, the detection accuracy will be greatly affected, and it is not suitable for this standard. This standard is applicable to vertical incidence and spectrometers, but not to energy spectrometers.
